WHAT IS THE "LITTLE JUMPS, BIG CHANGES!" CAMPAIGN
Fundraising Campaign Throughout February
During the month of February, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego and local community- minded businesses will participate in Little Jumps… Big Changes. This campaign aims to highlight the importance for our young community members to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Club members will concentrate on programs designed to promote health and wellness while at the same time raising funds necessary to support the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego. Little Jumps… Big Changes participants will celebrate the culmination of the campaign by jumping rope simultaneously at 13 branches across San Diego County.
During the month of February, each Friday will be BIG Change Friday. Members will participate in healthy cooking, physical fitness and fundraising activities.
THE REASON TO JUMP
The Club recognizes that children today are becoming less active and less educated on the benefits of physical activity. Almost thirteen million US children ages 2-19 years are obese and since 1980, obesity among children and adolescents has almost tripled. These issues however are not exclusive to our children. In San Diego County, approximately 55 percent of adults (1.2 million people) are overweight or obese. Obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke and other illnesses. As employers look to trim health care costs and increase the productivity of their workforces, a rapidly growing number of them are experimenting with wellness programs that reward workers for healthy lifestyle choices. A recent study conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that on average, employer medical costs fell $3.27 for every dollar spent on wellness programs.
